7 Important Features to Compare When Buying A Quality BMW Exhaust

People buy aftermarket or custom BMW exhausts for any number of reasons. Some for the sound, others for the name. However, most people aren’t aware that they should examine more than just one or two features of the exhaust they’re looking to purchase. That’s why I’ve compiled these seven important features to use when comparing exhaust options.

Improved Performance

There is no point in scrapping the restrictive, factory BMW exhaust for something custom or aftermarket if performance isn’t improved upon. That is why it is wise to shop around for exhausts that will enhance horsepower and torque numbers as much as possible.

Better Exhaust Flow

Generally speaking, the better and exhaust flows – the more performance can be improved upon. Granted there are situations where an exhaust can flow too well, causing the BMW to run less efficiently and starving for power. When it comes to exhaust flow, it’s best to find something that is larger than the factory exhaust, yet not so big that a small animal can crawl up there.

Sound Quality

Everyone has their own taste when it comes to exhausts. However, it is important to remember that it’s probably not a good idea to purchase an exhaust that will immediately notify the entire neighborhood every time the car is started because it’s so loud. Deciding on an exhaust that is nice and quiet at idle is only half the battle. It needs to have the potential to make your ears “gasm” at the top of the power band.

Drivability

Sometimes an exhaust may sound exceptional at idle, but once it’s opened up it may have a really annoying drone that seems to linger with you for the rest of the day. This is why it is important to check buyer reviews to see if they have experienced this “droning” noise that can drive a sane man mad.

Installation Difficulty Level

If the exhaust you have your mind set on can’t be installed without the use of a saw, welder and some experience…keep searching for something more suitable to your skill level.

Appearance

Let’s be honest, more people buy an exhaust for the sound rather than the looks – but I’m not here to judge. If it looks half as good as it sounds, you’re on the right track to find that BMW exhaust you’ve been looking for.

Price

Unfortunately, when all is said and done, none of the above features matter if the price of the exhaust rivals how much Floyd Mayweather makes in just one round of a boxing match. The perfect BMW exhaust is one that is a collaboration of everything that has been mentioned, with a reasonable price to match.
